Close encounter with a bison
Bison bull exits the forest right in front of me. The only photo I got before withdrawing betwen the cars. I have seen a lot of bisons in USA, most in Yellowstone National Park, but also elsewhere. Most were seen from a distance - some closer than others, but I actually had a very close encounter a bison at one time. We (my wife and I) were standing outside the car in a tightly packed parking lot in Yellowstone National Park when a park ranger pulled into the lot in his truck, opened the window and yelled: "Look out, bison passing through." And sure enough, a bison bull and two cows came out of the woods right in front of us. I agreed with myself that I had better pull in between our car and the one parked next to it, but the bison thought it was a brilliant idea, so it followed the same route as me. A 2,000 pound, 6.5 feet tall bison bull is big, and it seems even bigger, when it is 3 feet away from you – without being in an enclosure or behind a fence . When I stepped aside after getting out at the other end of the car, the bull fortunately continued into the forest on the other side, and I could breathe a sigh of relief. |
